On September 30, 2021, a meeting of KazISS experts under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan with a delegation of the Institute of Advanced Studies in National Defence of France, who visited the Republic of Kazakhstan, was held.

The French delegation included civilian and military experts on strategy, security and weapons, as well as representatives of the French Embassy in Kazakhstan.

Chief Research fellow Murat Laumulin, Head of the Department of International Studies (DIS) Asel Nazarbetova, Head of the Department of Sociological Studies Zhanna Karimova, Senior Research fellow of DIS Bekzhan Sadykov and Research fellow Alisher Abdreshev took part in the meeting on behalf of the KazISS under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Institute of Advanced Studies in National Defence (IHEDN-Paris) is a public administrative institution of France, founded in 1936, under the leadership of the Prime Minister of the country.

The mission of IHEDN is to prepare for the fulfillment of their duties the highest military and civilian leadership of France and foreign states carrying out their activities in the field of defense, foreign policy, armaments and defense economics. Its model is based on the joint training and professional development of individuals from different spheres of society (civil service, armed forces, business, political community).

At the beginning of the meeting, the participants of the event informed each other about the main directions of research activities, and also noted the importance of strengthening the scientific and analytical potential between the two countries.

The main part of the event was devoted to issues of international and regional security, where during his speech M. Laumulin highlighted, first of all, the Afghan problem in the context of challenges and threats to the Central Asian region.

In addition, during the conversation, the experts exchanged views on key events in international relations and their impact on the foreign policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, issues related to the energy potential of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the prospects for the country's transition to a green economy, issues of ensuring interfaith and interethnic harmony within the country were also discussed.
