On December 17-18, 2019, a regional dialogue on «New trends in violent extremism and preventive measures» was held in Dushanbe (Tajikistan). It was organized by the UN Development program in Kazakhstan.

The event was attended by experts in the field of extremism and terrorism from Central Asia, representatives of the world's leading think tanks, government agencies in the region responsible for the development and implementation of policies for the prevention of extremism and partner organizations involved in UNDP country activities in this area.

During the dialogue, preliminary results of the project «Strengthening the resilience of local communities and regional cooperation to prevent violent extremism in Central Asia», implemented by UNDP in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, were presented. The key provisions of the project are access to interactive dialogue platforms, promotion of a positive alternative to extremist propaganda, mutual assistance and a sense of cohesion; the formation of positive life scenarios, the development of professional, business and entrepreneurial skills among young people at the country level, and the creation of a regional platform for the consolidation and exchange of knowledge, information dissemination and interaction between the participating countries of Central Asia.

Anastasia Reshetnyak, senior research fellow of the KazISS, took part in the regional dialogue, making a report «Evolution of Kazakhstan's policy on preventing extremism online».
