On December 8-12, 2019, the chief research fellow of the Kazakhstan institute for strategic studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Vyacheslav Dodonov took part in a series of events in Japan organized by the Japan Association for trade with Russia and the newly independent states (ROTOBO). The trip was also attended by political scientist, director of the Risk assessment group Dossym Satpayev and editor-in-chief of Petroleum magazine Oleg Chervinskiy.

On December 9, a meeting was held with representatives of the ROTOBO Association – Director of the ROTOBO Institute Miki Wajima, researchers of the Institute Sayumi Mori, Izumi Saito and others. Also on this day, a visit was made to the Ministry of economy, trade and industry of Japan (METI), during which Kazakhstani experts met with director of the office of Central Asia and Caucasus Izumi Matsumoto and deputy director of the office of Russia, Central Asia and Caucasus of the Bureau of trade policy Ai Suzuki.

On December 10, a ROTOBO seminar was held for members of the Association - representatives of large industrial and financial business in Japan, as well as other interested parties-government agencies, research organizations, etc. During the seminar, Vyacheslav Dodonov delivered a lecture on the theme «Kazakhstan's economy in conditions of moderate oil prices: trends, challenges, prospects». The lecture revealed the main features of the development of Kazakhstan's economy in recent years in such areas as macroeconomic dynamics, the situation in the sphere of attracting foreign investment, the balance of payments, as well as a brief overview of the main economic programs currently being implemented.

On December 11, a number of events were held in Nagoya, at Nagoya University of Foreign Studies. In particular, Kazakh experts met with professors of the faculty of global governance and cooperation - dean of the faculty Shuhei Shimada and lecturers Tetsuro Chida, Junichi Takase, Nobukatsu Ono.

Experts from Kazakhstan also met with the President of the University Ikuo Kamaiama, during the meeting they exchanged views on Kazakhstan, Japan, the prospects of economic and academic cooperation between the two countries.

The final event of the visit was a speech to the audience of the University, including teachers, students, as well as members of the public of Nagoya with short versions of the lectures presented earlier at the ROTOBO seminar.
