In December 10, 2020, an international scientific and practical conference "Globalization, Religion, Dialogue" was held in Nur-Sultan in an online format.

The conference was held with the participation of the Ministry of Information and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the site of the Nursultan Nazarbayev Center for the Development of Interfaith and Intercivilizational Dialogue.

Famous scientists and experts from the world's leading think tanks from Great Britain, Brazil, Vatican, Pakistan, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Russia and Kazakhstan, representatives of higher educational institutions took part in the work of the international scientific and practical conference.

The event was addressed by the Chairman of the Committee on Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Information and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Nukezhanov, Head of the Bureau for Islam of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, Monsignor Khaled Akashe (Vatican), Director General of the Institute for the Study of Islam of the International Islamic University of Islamabad, Muhammad Ziya Ul- Haq (Pakistan), Executive Director of the Woolf Institute Esther-Miriam Wagner (UK), Head of the Department of Dialogue and Conflict Resolution of the Russian-Arab Center for Research and Information Khalid Abu Hasan, Secretary General of the Al-Azhara Academy of Islamic Studies Nazir Muhammad Muhammad al-Nazir Ayad, President of the non-profit organization "UniaoPlanetaria" - "Planetary Union" Eduardo Weaver, Senior Researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Ph.D., Professor Viktor Nemchinov, Head of the Department of International Relations of the Center for Islamic Civilization under the Cabinet of Ministers Orifa Gul Yamova, Vice-President of the "International Kazakh-Turkish University named after Khoja Ahmed Yasavi" Amirekul Abuov, Counselor to the Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Dastan Eleukenov.

During the conference, modern processes of globalization, issues of intercultural and interreligious dialogue, tolerance in ensuring security and sustainable development of states were discussed. Scientists have noted the problems of religious and racial discrimination, information attacks on the Islamic religion with accusations of terrorism and extremism, which only contributes to the complication of the situation in the interfaith sphere. The growing role of the religious and scientific-expert community in the development of fundamental, applied, research projects in the field of state-confessional relations is considered.

International experts focused particular attention on the role and outstanding contribution of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy N.A. Nazarbayev in the formation and development of Independent Kazakhstan, the creation of an effective model of peace and harmony between different confessions, the promotion of interreligious and intercultural dialogue in the world within the framework of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.

Moderator of the event, Chairman of the Board of the Nursultan Nazarbayev Center for the Development of Interfaith and Intercivilizational Dialogue Altai Abibullayev, summarizing the speeches of the participants, stressed that in the conditions of global turbulence, the emergence of new challenges and threats in the world, modern interreligious and interfaith relations are undergoing a deep reassessment and transformation. In this context, the role of the scientific and expert community, national and international research institutes and centers specializing in the comprehensive study of issues of interreligious and intercivilizational development is increasing.

On behalf of the KazISS under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the conference was also attended by the leading research fellow of the department of socio-political research Madina Bektenova, with a speech on the ecology of religion and contemporary challenges of globalization and senior research fellow of the department of international studies Anastasia Reshetnyak.
