In December 23, 2020, an expanded meeting of the Academic Council of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held. The meeting was held in offline and online formats.

Director of KazISS Zarema Shaukenova presented a report on the work done by the Institute for 2020.

The activities of KazISS in the reporting period were aimed at preparing and providing the country's leadership with the necessary forecast, analytical, scientific and information materials in the field of domestic policy, socio-economic processes, foreign policy strategy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In 2020, the Institute held 28 scientific and organizational events, of which: 13 expert meetings and discussions, 6 scientific and practical conferences, 6 round tables, 3 presentations of KazISS books.

22 book and periodical publications have been prepared, including 4 author's monographs, 2 collections of materials from international conferences, 2 methodological manuals, 1 information and reference publication, 1 collection of scientific papers, 12 issues of scientific journals KazISS: scientific and analytical journal "Kogam zhane Dauir" , scientific journal "Kazakhstan-Spectrum", Quarterly Analytical Review "Central Asia's Affairs".

In 2020, the KazISS staff published 78 scientific and analytical materials. Including in the editions of KazISS - 29, in other Kazakh editions - 39, in foreign scientific journals and collections - 10.

Prepared and announced at various conferences, expert forums, seminars, round tables 300 reports. Within the framework of Kazakhstani scientific events, 251 reports were presented, at conferences organized in online format by foreign scientific and analytical centers, 49 reports were announced.

During the reporting period, KazISS experts appeared in the media 803 times. Including, 514 - in electronic, 199 - on television and radio, 90 - in print media.

In 2020, KazISS traditionally held meetings with representatives of foreign embassies, international organizations, foreign research and analytical centers in order to expand and develop international scientific relations, clarify the main provisions of Kazakhstan's domestic and foreign policy, Kazakhstan's priorities in the field of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Interest in the activities of KazISS in the reporting period was shown by such scientific and analytical institutions and international organizations as: Representation of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation (FRG) in Central Asia, Center for Central Asia Research at Corvinus University (Hungary), Research Institute "Dialogue of Civilizations" (Russia), Office OSCE programs in Nur-Sultan, Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Population Group of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FRG), National Institute for Defense Studies (NIDS) under the Ministry of Defense Japan.

In accordance with the concluded agreements on cooperation with higher educational institutions and research institutes, in 2020 KazISS accepted 26 students, undergraduates and doctoral students of the L.N. Gumilyov, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Almaty Management University, Kazakh-German University, Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, Institute of Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies CS MES RK, Institute of Oriental Studies named after R.B. Suleimenova CS MES RK.

The KazISS website is popular among both Kazakhstani and users from neighboring and far abroad countries. The number of visitors to the KazISS official Facebook page has significantly increased. The audience coverage for 2020 was 241,227 users (in 2019 - 129,686). During the reporting period, the KazISS experts posted 1,897 publications on the page, which is 939 publications more than last year. The total number of subscribers reached 4,007 people. Statistics on maintaining the KazISS page on Twitter: audience coverage for 2020 amounted to 45,857 users. In total, 1044 tweets were posted on the page by KazISS employees. 

During the Academic Council, a discussion of the Progress Report took place. Presentations were made by Deputy Directors, Advisor to the Director, Heads of Analytical Departments and the Representative Office of KazISS in Almaty, as well as the main and leading research fellows of the Institute - Kushkumbayev S.K., Sadiyeva S.S., Zhumagulov M.I., Eleukenov D.Sh., Zholdybalina A.S., Nurgaliyeva M.M., Nazarbetova A.K., Aben A.S., Karataeva L.R., Laumulin M.T., Bektenova M.K.

In a solemn atmosphere, the employees of the Institute were awarded state and departmental awards.

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the jubilee medal «Қазақстан Конституциясына 25 жыл» was awarded to the deputy director Zhumagulov M.I. and the chief expert Zhanabilov N.E.

The breastplate of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan «Ғылымды дамытуға сіңірген еңбегі үшін» was awarded to the chief research fellows V.Yu. Dodonov, M.T. Laumulin. Certificates of honor of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan were presented to the Deputy Director Zhumagulov M.I., the head of the Representative Office of the KazISS in Almaty Aben A.S., the chief expert Ordalieva Zh.S., Secretary for Academic and Research Affairs of KazISS Issayev K.D. was awarded a letter of thanks from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Also, the KazISS team congratulated the Deputy Head of the Organizational Work Department S.S. Dyusembekova on the anniversary, presenting a congratulatory address and a gift from the trade union committee.

Concluding the meeting of the Academic Council, the director of the KazISS thanked the entire team for the work done and wished them success in the implementation of the tasks and plans in 2021.
